Sports Officiating Self Tests — the sports-officiating.org website and the “Sports Officiating” iOS app.
Last updated 30 July 2026.
The short version. There are no accounts and no logins. Your quiz answers, scores and progress stay in your own browser or phone and are never sent anywhere. Nothing is sold, shared or used for advertising. The only personal information ever stored is what you choose to type into the feedback form, plus ordinary web server logs.
Clearing your browser data erases your progress permanently. There is no copy anywhere else.
Two things, and only these.
Like nearly every website, requests are logged so it is possible to see how much the site is being used and to investigate problems.
| Recorded | Why |
|---|---|
| Page address requested | To count usage by sport |
| IP address | To estimate the number of distinct visitors, and to identify abusive traffic |
| Browser/device type (user agent) | To filter out automated crawlers |
| Referring page, if any | To see where visitors arrive from |
| Date and time | To group usage by day |
These logs are deleted automatically after 90 days. They are never linked to anything you answer in a quiz, because your answers are never sent. Usage is only ever reviewed in aggregate — visit counts and distinct-visitor totals, not individual browsing.
If, and only if, you use the Feedback button to report a problem or request a feature, the following is stored so the report can be acted on:
Please do not include personal information in the message itself. No name or email address is requested, and none is needed — reports are read, but there is no way to reply to you individually.
Reports are stored in a private database, emailed to the site owner, and copied into a private issue tracker so corrections can be followed through. They are not public. They are kept until resolved and then removed. If you want a report deleted, get in touch (see below) — quoting roughly when you sent it and what it said.
A short-lived count of recent submissions per IP address is also kept, purely to stop the form being abused. It expires automatically within minutes.
The “Sports Officiating” iOS app works the same way as the website and collects even less. Every question is bundled inside the app, so it runs completely offline — it makes no network connection, which means there are no server logs at all. As on the web, there are no accounts and no logins, and your scores, progress and weak areas are stored only on your device; deleting the app erases them. Nothing is collected, transmitted, sold, or shared, and there is no advertising, analytics, or tracking. The app requests no permissions and gathers no personal information — its App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected.”
This is a practice tool for sports officials and is not directed at children. No information is knowingly collected from anyone under 13.
The site runs on Amazon Web Services in the United States. Logs and any feedback you send are stored there.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes will be noted on the site.
Questions about this policy, or a request to delete feedback you sent, can be raised through the Feedback button on any page of the site.
